But, here is the good part as it relates to that statement, I fully support your thoughts. Your boldness is regrettably too seldom seen, especially from one who has an investment that can be submarined by making these revelations. Few have the consciousness to realize that by sitting back and keeping to themselves they are “promoting” the smut that ebbs and flows in what we title our culture. Thankx, D.B.

It seems to me that the great bulk of those who practice persecution of others, rely on followers who mostly lack the intelligence to see through the message being delivered. Whether it’s a pompous ass in a big fancy church or an imam at a mosque, if people listen and blindly believe, that’s when problems tend to start. If people listen and question the message and its mouthpiece, then the outcome tends to be different. It might be arrogant on my part but looking at the Ky. county clerk and her husband kind of makes it easy to see that religions tend to prey on those who tend to lack critical thinking skills.
Lastly I would submit the thought that there is a gulf between faith and religion. It seems to me that faith is an internal compass that is the sum of many things. Internal motivations mostly instruct one’s own faith. External motivations, like the exhortation of a big tent huckster sadly tend to drive and direct too much of religion. Faith is your own gig. It burns hot in the privacy and peace of your own thoughts. It does not need to be declared to others, or held up for all to see and read. Sadly, imo much of today’s religion tends to be more of an outward facing thing that tends to focus on external factors, like judging others, as a means of demonstrating a narrowly defined love of god.
Peace. Out.

I heartily agree- I, too, am a follower of Christ and He was pretty clear on some very foundational principles- 1) love God (self-explanatory), 2) love your neighbor (those of like belief), 3) love others (everyone else). Not much room for exceptions there. We are all sinners and “have fallen short of the glory of God”. The first thing I do, when confronted with all the sin and crap committed in the name of Christianity is say “yes, I agree, people suck, and a lot of bad things have been done and said by “Christians”. ” I humbly ask that any untruths or bitter recriminations that come out of my mouth fall on deaf ears- I only want to be more like Christ every day and love people whether I want to or not- a tall order for me sometimes. But I do have a great example of him that should be done. Thanks for your thoughts Darren.

You have perfectly reflected my thoughts on those who today call themselves “Christians.” Similarly any overly narrow or self serving interpretation of Islam or Hindu theology. Thank you!
